Argos, Homebase, Land of Leather and SCS sofas and reclining chairs - Allergic Reaction
We have recently been instructed by Mr and Mrs A to investigate a claim for personal injuries following an allergic reaction to leather sofas purchased from the high street catalogue chain, Argos.
The leather three piece suite which is apparently made in China (from the ‘Bari’ range) was the subject of an article in the News of the World on 9 September 2007. The article reported that sofas from the ‘Bari’ and ‘Pia’ ranges sold by the high street retail outlet, have caused chronic skin complaints amongst customers with some needing hospital treatment.
The reaction ranges from a mild rash to red scaly and blistered skin in the worst cases.
Mr and Mrs A have both suffered with red itchy skin. Mrs A had a pre-existing skin condition which has now been made worse by the allergic reaction she appears to have had to the sofa.
Tests are being carried out by a dermatology expert to identify whether chemicals are present in the leather sofas to cause the allergic reaction.
We are also investigating potential claims on behalf of other customers of Argos and Homebase, Land of Leather and SCS, who have suffered skin complaints and respiratory problems.
Claims are being investigated to allege negligence of breaches of the Consumer Protection Act (CPA), the Sale of Goods Act and the Defective Products Act.
